Muscat, Apr 24: Drawing is considered as an important form of art that brings together vivid imagination and well-honed artistic skills of a person. It has been the endeavour of the Mangalorean Catholic Centre for the Parish (MCCP), Oman to provide various platforms for its members to showcase their talents in different fields. Towards the same goal, MCCP organised the Annual Drawing Competition for adults as well as children recently at Ruwi Church Parish Hall with great enthusiasm. The thrill and sporting spirit was very much evident with more than hundred children and adults vying with each other for prizes and accolades in various categories.

In order to provide level playing field for the children, the MCCP executive committee made 6 sub-categories according to different age groups. Adults were in a separate category, so that they could be judged only among the best.

The event started with the registration of all the participants according to their category. Spiritual advisor of MCCP, Fr Wilson Rumao was specially present to encourage children to do their best. He inaugurated the competition by cutting the ribbon along with the MCCP executive committee members and prayed for the success of the event. He wished all the participantsthe very best for the competition. John Gonsalves, president of MCCP welcomed everyone and asked them to enjoy themselves as participation matters more than winning.

Category wise, children were then led to separate class rooms to draw as per the themes given. The themes were diverse to generate maximum interest and get the best out of the children. The themes were, ‘My dream house’ for children of standard III and IV, ‘Muscat festival’ for standards V and VI, ‘A rainy day in Oman’ for standards VII and VIII and ‘Scene of crucifixion of Jesus’ for standards IX to XII.
The adults were asked to draw and colour a scene on the MCCP theme of the year ‘Malgadyank Maan, Kutmanth Samadhaan’. Children in KG, std 1 and std 2 were asked to colour pre-drawn pictures.

After the completion of drawing, every participant was called on stage and felicitated with a certificate of participation and a gift bag. These along with sumptuous snacks brought wide smiles on the face of all the children.

The drawings were judged by an eminent artist and teacher from Indian School Muscat. The winners in each category are as below:

The executive committee of MCCP, headed by John Gonsalves announced that all winners of the drawing competition will be felicitated on the Talent Day scheduled on April 29. He also thanked all those who participated in the competition and said thatthe event was successful because of the tremendous enthusiasm shown by the members and their children.

MCCP is now gearing up for its next major event, which is scheduled on Friday April 29. On this day, the preliminary round of Gulf Voice of Mangalore 2016 to select Oman’s six best singers from male and female categories, followed by multi-talent show by the members, will be conducted. MCCP has now sent out a final call to all those who want to participate in any of the above programmes to contact a committee member immediately as the last date for registration is April 25.
